Essay on Conquering Uncertainty

Eleven years ago I had actually simply finished from Princeton Theological Seminary and the Senior Minister I was serving urged me to write a letter to the editor of the regional newspaper. A radical group of New Testament scholars, operating under the title The Jesus Seminar, had actually pertained to town for one of their annual conferences.

Their task, as a group of specialists, was to decide which teachings of Jesus, in fact, came from his mouth, and which were comprised by the early church. Understanding that gospel research study was an enthusiasm of mine, he motivated me to write an editorial letter. The response was beyond anything I expected. Dozens of Christians from all over the county tracked me down and sent me notes of support. I was swamped by phone calls. But I also got some hate mail, consisting of a quasi-death risk letter which had been opened and re-sealed by the FBI with a cover letter stating "the sender is under the purview of federal investigation " and not to be scared. Wonderful! That Sunday a man came into the praise service with a crow-bar only to be by force has gotten rid of by a few off-duty policemen in our churchgoers. I'm sure little kids seeing this idea, "Church rocks male!"

An Uncertain Man

John phase 3 records an incident where a spiritual instructor called Nicodemus worried Jesus to inquire about spiritual issues. What Nicodemus experienced, or more properly who Nicodemus encountered, was far from the tolerant, accepting, verifying religious instructor of The Jesus Seminar. Nicodemus told Jesus in verse 2, "Rabbi, we know you are an instructor who has come from God. For nobody might carry out the miraculous indications you are doing if God were not with him." Preventing any procedures and cutting straight to the heart of the matter, Jesus reacted, "I inform you the fact unless a male is born once again, he can not see the kingdom of God." No obscurity. No pretense. No uncertainty. No haziness. Jesus went directly to the core of Nicodemus' search with a truthful, unapologetic and up-front response. My how times have changed.

Unapologetic Christians

The problem is people today are looking for assistance from people who understand that they know that they know. She understood the decisions she made could be the distinction between life and death. I know I did.
