Colombia Volcano Eruption Essay - What You Need to Know

Introduction: What is Happening in Colombia?

A volcano in Colombia has erupted and rendered more than 12,000 people homeless. A few days ago, on November 13th, the volcano of Nevado del Ruiz erupted causing a massive landslide.

Colombia Volcano Eruption Essay - What You Need to Know

The Nevado del Ruiz is a stratovolcano that is located in the Tolima department of Colombia. The eruption that took place on November 13th is the first in 20 years since this eruption in 1993.

The size of the volcano has been rapidly growing for weeks with tremors being heard from miles away before it finally erupted. The Colombian authorities have been monitoring the activity of this mountain for some time now and had warned its residents to evacuate when they saw an increase in seismic activity which was followed by a decrease.

What is a Volcanic Eruption?

The term eruption is given to the sudden release of energy built up in a volcano. This usually means that the volcano has either exploded, or it has erupted. This could be either a violent explosion or slowly oozing out lava.

There are different types of eruptions which are based on how they develop and what they do to the surrounding area. The most common type is the Strombolian eruption where lava slowly seeps out from cracks in the Earth’s surface. These are followed by the explosive Plinian eruptions where ash, rock, and gas are all blown into the atmosphere at once which can cause serious problems for air travel

Why Did the Volcano Erupt in Colombia?

Why Did the Volcano Erupt in Colombia

On December 7, 2018, news outlets reported that a particular volcano in Colombia had erupted without warning. They also indicated that the eruption had taken place some five kilometers from where people live. One of the reasons why this volcano erupted is because of the increase in seismic activity which caused stress on the mountain.

The first reason why this volcano erupted is because of an increase in seismic activity. The second reason is because of the amount of stress on the mountain due to increased temperature and gas pressure inside it.

How Do We Know it's Dangerous?

There are many risks in this world that can be found naturally or may occur due to human error. For this assignment, we will look at natural hazards that are occurring now and the ways scientists are trying to predict future occurrences.

The dangers of natural hazards can be difficult to predict, but with the help of science and technology, these risks may become more manageable. Scientists use hazard maps like danger zone maps or hazard maps of volcano eruptions to monitor the current risk levels for volcanoes and other natural phenomena.

Scientists try to predict future occurrences by studying past events, but it is difficult to accurately predict when an event will occur because these systems are very complicated. New technology being developed by scientists is a new app called "Pinpoint Volcanoes" which combines past data from volcanoes with satellite

What are the Effects of a Volcano Eruption on Society?

A volcanic eruption can pose a serious threat to society. However, the effects of an eruption depend on the geographic location of the volcano and how close it is to population centers.

For example, in Indonesia, volcanoes are closely related to religion and culture. So, when Mount Kelud erupted in 2014, many people fled their homes to avoid being killed by ash or lava flows.

Some animals even sense the events before they happen and act appropriately by leaving the area before an eruption takes place.

How Can You Prepare Yourself for a Volcanic Eruption?

The Kilauea volcano is still erupting on Hawaii’s Big Island. It has been going on for more than a month and the lava has destroyed more than 600 homes.

People often wonder if they are ready for a volcanic eruption and how they will get by such a natural disaster.

What would happen in the event of a volcanic eruption? There are many different scenarios, but we can make some general predictions based on past eruptions:

- A few minutes to hours of warning before an eruption: scientists can detect signs like increased seismic activity and gas emissions and issue warnings of impending danger

- The time between warning and impact varies greatly depending on geographical location, distance from the eruption site, elevation, climate conditions, etc.

- Depending on how far you

What are the natural signs of an impending volcanic eruption?

Volcanoes are often characterized by certain signs that can be detected before an eruption. These signs are not always accurate, but they are the only indication of an imminent eruption.

There are three main types of natural signs that indicate the probability of a volcanic eruption:

- Volcanic seismicity

- Ground deformation & uplift

- Gas emissions

Conclusion - How to Stay Safe from Volcanic Activity

I will give you some safety tips to follow in order to reduce your risk of getting hurt during a volcanic eruption.

1. Always stay away from the volcano's path.

2. Stay indoors when there is an eruption warning.

3. Be careful while driving near the volcano because of molten ash which may cause accidents and block visibility on the roads.

4. Check for alerts and warnings issued by geologists, scientists, and volcanologists who are experts in this field
