3 Techniques for setting Objectives (Goals)

2019 vanishing at a speed that quantum physics is yet unable to discuss. Thank goodness I had a goal to accomplish!

I do however like to set goals that are useful, measurable, and achievable. Last year I established an objective to run at least 5km (3 miles) every other day. I feel terrific, not simply physically but mentally understanding I surpassed my goal.

So what about 2020? What about you? Have you set your objectives?

Congratulations if you already have! You get extra congratulations if you have dedicated them to paper. If you have actually also shared them with others, you get the very first location big blue rosette.

Get at it if you haven't developed your 2020 goals!

I use 3 tricks to set your objectives.
  • 1. Make them personal. Set your goals for you, not somebody else.
  • 2. Make them useful. They can be individual or work-associated or both.
  • 3. Share them with others. This helps you commit to your success.

In fact, there is no magic to this workout. Simply ask yourself, "What do I truly wish to accomplish in 2020 prior to it develops into 2020?

I work with sales experts; their incomes depend on their capability to produce sales. I still can't believe the number of gifted folks I speak to who have not put in the time to make a note of their goals, nor have they drew up their supporting strategies to accomplish their goals. I shudder to believe how much more successful they would be if they set tangible goals, developed a plan to reach those goals and shared their objectives with their sales supervisor, a peer or their partner - or all 3!

I had the enjoyment of meeting Mark Victor Hansen a few years ago at a sales conference in Hawaii. Mark is co-creator of Chicken Soup for the Soul book series and is truly an inspirational and humorous speaker. Mark discussed goal setting and I want to share one unforgettable trip he made. Mark had actually left small cards on the tables for us to finish. He asked us to write down one objective, the time frame for the conclusion and after that he asked us to have two or 3 others sign the card, not to pass or agree on judgment on your goal, merely to acknowledge it. I have actually welcomed this simple concept ever since it truly helps!

My last recommendation is to keep your objectives noticeable. Post them in your workplace, bring them on a small card in your wallet or purse, and put a copy on your closet door to look at every morning when you get dressed or consider putting it on your computer's sticky notes or on computer's screen saver. I discovered keeping my running log upgraded every second day was all I needed.

Plan to have a fantastic year. I wish you success in surpassing your 2020 objectives!

I still can't think the number of talented folks I speak with who have not taken the time to write down their objectives, nor have they mapped out their supporting techniques to achieve their objectives. I shudder to believe how much more successful they would be if they set concrete objectives, established a strategy to reach those objectives, and shared their objectives with their sales manager, a peer or their partner - or all 3!
