Earth Day Essay | April 22 | Class ,Std 4,5,6,7,8,9,10

Introduction: The name and concept of Earth Day was pioneered by John McConnell in 1969 at a UNESCO Conference in San Francisco. However the genesis of Earth Day is credited to Gaylord Nelson. 1969 massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California caused to get attention of the Earth day concept. Gaylord Nelson called for an environmental teach-in, or Earth Day, to be held on April 22, 1970. This Earth Day is now observed on April 22 each year.

Explanation: Earth Day brings for students to explore the purpose and significance of the holiday and raises their awareness of environmental issues. These issues may be about waste management, pollution and energy conservation.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in 2008 the average American tossed more than 4 pounds of waste into the garbage every day so our duty is to keep earth as clean as possible. The first thing is that we have to think whole earth as our home. The problem is that people use outside of their house as dustbin. There are to be awareness program in school to minimize the use of polythene and other waste that cause harm to our environment. Earth day is to get reminded about all external parameters that cause dirtiness of our environment. So in honor of earth day we have to increase awareness about Energy Conservation, Pollution etc.

Pollution: Every nation has their controlling government system to check the pollution particularly industrial pollution, but it is not at satisfactory level. Earth day will give to think in a new way for young generation to combat the issue. Every nation is assuring to other nation in all international meet, but in term of action the progress is very slow. Few nations are showing better records of pollution control but majority are lagging. The temperature is becoming hotter. The weather occurrence is shifting. The sea water level is increasing slowly. All these are worsening the normal environment of earth.

Energy Conservation: Energy conservation refers to efforts made to reduce energy consumption. Energy conservation can be achieved through increased efficient use of energy. We must use energy efficiently. It means unnecessary use of energy to be avoided. In homes we can reduce energy consumption by switching off idle lights and electric load which is not required. Conventional use of energy is also to be lessened. All these parameters will add goodness of earth. We should make all effort to reduce climatic variation. Indirectly it helps the healthiness of natural balance of earth.

Energy conservation in the United Kingdom has been receiving increased attention over recent years. Key factors behind this are the Government's commitment to reducing carbon emissions. At the end of 2006, the European Union-EU pledged to cut its annual consumption of primary energy by 20% by 2020. Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) www.pcra.org is an Indian government body created in 1977 and engaged in promoting energy efficiency and conservation in every walk of life. All these steps and activities of different countries are helping much more towards the objective of energy consumption in efficient way.

Conclusion: The centre theme is that we young generation can build the destiny of earth in coming years. The old practices of using energy and waste management have to be rediscovered in a new way to save the natural balance of the Earth.
