Essay on Child Marriage In India

Every little girl from a tender age fantasizes about her marriage. She has her own ideas, notions and dreams about her new home, her partner, what her relationship will be like, her children and so on. For many these dreams come true. Some girls really do grow up; find the love of their lives and live happily ever after. But for a few of these unfortunate girls, life plays a cruel twist. They do get married, but not in the manner they envisioned. They are forced to marry even before they hit puberty often to men as old as their fathers. This wide spread practice of child marriage is the most detrimental to our society and needs to be dealt with a firm hand.

In a country where the girl child is considered a liability, a large number of people from poor socio-economic backgrounds prefer to get their daughters married at a young age. Thus becoming free of their responsibilities and ‘passing on the burden to their husbands’. These obsolete and out dated ideals used to form the basis if our society. Girls as young as 8-9 years of age who were neither physically nor mentally ready to enter a lifelong commitment were married off to men who would either be children themselves or much older than their brides. The social, physical as well as mental consequences of this act are horrifying and have shown the image of India in poor light.

It is common for girls who have been married off at such a young age to become pregnant well before their bodies have fully developed. This is bad news for both the mother as well as new born child. Many studies suggest that when girls become pregnant before puberty it can cause various defects in the child and can also lead to untimely death of the mother.

In many parts of the country due to illiteracy and unemployment, the husbands have been known to torture their child brides. Raising hands, beating girls, abusive language and in many cases marital rape have become common features in the case of child marriage. With grooms families supporting this kind of shocking behaviour, the child is left with no option but to endure this pain for the rest of her life.

Child marriage is defined by the union of two individuals who have not yet attained legal age as prescribed by law. In India women are considered fit to marry only after they have attained the age of 18, while boys can marry only after they are 21 years of age. In recent times, the Government has taken a proactive approach to curb Child marriage in India. With the introduction of Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006 strict action has been taken against those indulging in child marriage. Those found guilty are charged with hefty fines and can be imprisoned as well. The International Centre for Research on Women- UNICEF publications have estimated India’s child marriage rate to be 47% in 1998, while United Nations reports it to be 30% in 2005. By 2009 the child marriage rate has reach 7% all over India and gives some hope for the future.

Initiatives such as ‘Apni Beti Apna Dhan’ encourage families to delay marriages by providing incentives. Under this scheme, a government paid bond is payable to the daughters parents of Rupees 25000 after the child’s 18th birthday, if she is unmarried. These programs have been implemented with some success in state such as Haryana, where child marriages are prevalent.

India is a mystical land of many traditions, cultures and values. However, some of our practices are outdated and regressive. We need to abolish practices such as child marriage and ensure that the country progresses not just economically but socially as well. While marriage is a beautiful union between two souls, it is important to understand that child marriage only leads to loss of innocence and broken dreams.

A House On Fire Essay For Class 6 (281 words)

By Azra Ahmad demanded by :281 words: It was very terrifying experience of seeing a 'house fire'. Few years ago there were more numbers of huts in villages. The villagers used to cook food with wooden type fuels. At those times caught fire in houses was very common. The villagers were used to extinguish the fire also. For controlling and extinguishing the fire the villagers had their own plan of uniting all and acting in common at these types of incidents. I was five years old when I saw a house on fire. The house was besides my house. My house luckily was of concrete. From my birth I was unaware of huge flames and blaze. I heard sound of fire (like bhooooo!!!); which was completely horrible. A man started shouting after seeing the blaze of the event. In a few minutes many men were running with tremendous pace and bringing water from the nearby well and hand pipe. The ladies were operating many hand-pumps. They attacked the fire. It was very much frightening scene for a child likes me. About 60% of the villagers were doing their best to put out or to reduce the flame as much as possible. One thing I noticed that there is much force and power in unity. The house fire was controlled very quickly. The best thing was that the fire was controlled such that other nearby houses remained safe. The enthusiasm and self actuating power of all were the exemplary attitude and dedication for today's people who wait for other to act.   The scene was so frightful that it was not wiping out from my mind. The house got destroyed.

An Incident Of My Childhood Essay for Class 6

By Urooz Ali ####Total 564 Words

An incident is a particular event happened with someone. Incidents may be of many types. This is a childhood incident that happened in my childhood time.

This  incident of my childhood has been narrated by my mother because at that time I was too young to capture those wonderful memories.

This event happened with me when I was just three years old. The weather was cool with sunny day. It was Thursday my father was leaving for office. I was playing with my toys as usual inside my house. After my mother saw off my father for office, she started to talk with our neighbour for short while.

I was feeling very natural with my usual daily routine of playing, unfortunately something came in mind that I, by mistake locked the main entrance door of my house. It was also a part of my free attitude. Till then everything was normal and felt no any problem. But After that my mother was about for entering inside the house then she found the door was at locked condition. She went to another door of my house, there again she noticed that the other door was also at closed state. She  fell  fully in tension because she knew that I was inside the house.

She was in bad temper and was out of her control. Her temper level was also going higher and higher. She started to shout. Because of her shouting I also became afraid and I also started to shout.

She didn’t knew that what to do then? Nothing was coming in her mind. She started crying when she looked from the window the live Iron (press iron for clothe). But she even then thought an idea to guide me for opening the door; which I closed. She tried every thing to teach me the door opening steps, but I was too young to get those steps of opening the door. Then my mother's eye was filled with tear at that time I became afraid and felt that perhaps I was in big trouble. Then I tried to put out my little leg from the narrow opening between the door and the door wall. Sometimes I was raising my hand sometimes my leg and sometimes I was looking through the door small holes. I then started crying mummy!  mummy!  mummy!.......... mummy!

Within twenty minutes all my neighbour were standing in front of my house and everyone was trying to open the door.  After half an hour they concluded that the door must be broken. But my mother was in big trouble and was telling that my daughter might become very much afraid with this activity. Then what happened my mother thought a beautiful trick, she started hitting the door ; which has top side shutter. Her idea was very nice after 30 seconds the shutter fell down and the door got opened. I rush with big happiness  and jumped into my mother's lap and hold her very much tightly. This event was very much close to my heart. This incident of my childhood put to feel me about my mother's love towards me. I usually request my mom to tell this event. I also shared this event of my childhood with  close friends. I also wrote essays about this incident and shared to my family and class 6 students. They enjoyed this very much.
