Essay on 'Democracy has lost its Spirit and Culture in our Country.

Independent India's first General Elections of 1952 were termed and described by foreign commentators as the great gamble in the history of the world. They argued that a communally divided, poor, emaciated and diverse country like India, will never be able to sustain the practice of free and fair election.Obituaries were being written for Indian democracy.Widespread apprehensions existed that India would ever be able to survive as a Nation.

Ever since Independence, the world has witnessed the disintegration of the powerful USSR, the flip-flop of theocratic countries from military coup to democracy and vice –versa , religious clashes between the two factions of same religion in the Middle East, the rise of the American-styled democracy and the increasing clout of an anti-democratic China on the World order. However, being the most diverse region in the entire world,India never showed any large or powerful signs of disintegration. Free from the clutches of the colonial chains of political, social and economic slavery of the British, today we are into the 70th year of India's independence.

democracy-has-lost-its-spirit-and-culture-in-our-country

Even though today's independent India has continued to thrive and progress as a democratic, cultural and economic giant, there still exists many loopholes that threaten it's democratic set-up and continue to exhort critics to criticize and question it's imagination of an ideal democracy.

There are 3 major factors which contributed to India's growing democracy and provided the glue to let the people of the land stick together in difficult circumstances.

First is the robust Constitution of India:-
Indian constitution takes care of each section of the people irrespective of their caste, religion or minority. It has been time and again proved to be flexible that it can be changed according to the needs of time and society.Even the adversaries of India agree that the Constitution played the largest role in the success of India as a democratic nation. It has been highlighted as the key which is interlocking a diverse nation known as India.

Second is the successful integration of all the Princely states:-
Integration of 546 princely states was not a mean task. However,Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel along with Foreign secretary VK Menon played an instrumental role in shaping the geography of the modern India by annexing all the princely states into the Union of India. Though an immensely difficult task, both of them persuaded boastful and egotistic kings of small provinces to merge with India. Most of them wished to remain independent, however, Sardar Patel rightly asserted that it was higjly unlikely that they will be able to survive independently.

Thus, India remained to be a Union of states unlike an agreement of states in the USA.

The third factor was Mr.Nehru's able leadership:-

Indian nation after Independence was like a child. Without the Congress, the future looked bleak and dark.Survival of the Congress was dependent on Nehru. Nehru kept the government and people together. Whether winning the elections continuously for three times or re-structuring of states upon linguistic lines, from Non-Alignment movement to adopting socialist economic policies, he was able to steer India out of every chaos.Exceptions exist but they can be argued and contested as one cannot ponder upon yesterday’s decision without taking into account the scenarios which lead to the decision. The inaugural 15 years after Independence were very crucial for democratic India and Nehru was at command.Even his adversaries and critics agree that he did his job perfectly well that’s why India still remains to be a democratic nation.

However, no political system is utopian. All the political systems have to work in the environment conditioned by social and economic factors of that society. Indian democracy is no exception to this universal law.

Some prominent aspects which affect Indian democracy and challenge it's legitimacy and spirit are

Social inequalities caused due to caste system and economic imbalances:-
Casteism is the major contributor to social inequality in India. As they say, in India, people do not cast their vote in the election but they vote their caste. This practice undermines the democratic spirit of political system and threatens the shared vision of the national leaders and freedom fighters. Economic disparity is huge. Poor people do not think of elections as their political right because they are worried about their present and future. As the rich and elite class unleashes the gifts to the poor during elections the poor tend to forget the true purpose of elections in a democracy and instead vote inefficient candidates.

Violence:-
Violence has been rooted in the political system of Indian democracy.Inter-communal violence, election violence, political violence, and all other forms of violence has been engulfing the political sphere.

Freedom of speech, association, and press:-
There have been many instances where the constitutional rights of Indian citizens were compromised in the past and the practice still continue till date rather in other subtle manners.

Freedom to speak one's mind is the panacea for an independent nation.Without this, the nation is reduced to a showpiece of democracy with no real democratic spirit. Therefore, Indian democracy has been strengthened by common welfare, rule of law, stable government, the spirit of patriotism, etc. On the other hand, it definitely consists of weaknesses and challenges which seem formidable such as inefficient political leaders, lack of political literacy among the general populace, rigid social system, etc.

While concluding, it is imperative to the note that the future of Indian democracy hangs in the balance. It stands on the cross roads, leading to people's democracy. The fact cannot be denied that the political democracy as it has been in the existence in most of the capitalistic states of the world today, suffers from various shortcomings. However, it can be perfectly argued that democracy itself is not at fault. The defect has to be laid on the socio-economic system in which it has been made to fit. It will take a long time to completely abolish and vitiate all the challenges in the Indian democracy. The new generation, now, shoulders the responsibility laid upon them by the makers of the constitution to make this experiment a huge success. The world is keenly observing India's experiment with democracy.

Essay on My Biggest Wish for Country For Class 9

My small wish for our country India can solve bigger problems and it will qualify as the biggest wish parameter for our country that anybody perceived till date .

Financial, political , Industrial growth numbers cannot present index of happiness of common man. Bread, employment, health and smile of the common man face determine the life index of any country .

My wish can bring the true happiness and real growth sense in our society. I think I should reveal my wish now. It is making our government's all system transparent with the help of computerisation . It is the wish of many citizens of India . Great experts already have advocated for bringing transparency . If the banks can be computerised within a year then why not gowonment . The most important thing is that computerisation must not be a show game. we common man needs to exeute our needful official job at our fingertips just like internet banking . It is the most convenient method to reduce corruption which is eating our country day by day .

Corruption is the result of redtapism activities of person connected to the execution process of the governmental bodies. If the system can be made transparent then everything will be visible foam top & bottom. Most of all the system must be citizen driven and policy must be gourmet driven. It is the only way to perceive for betterment of a country having minimal corruption or no corruption.

I would like to cite examples of redtappism activities of government staff/ officers etc and its substitute process to diminish the wrong power utilisation of the men connected with the government activity.
Example 1:
Problem: If someone go to put an FIR the police indirectly ask bribe. Or the police shows his power to put fear in the front men, so that he make a contribution.
Solution : The online FIR registry method must be made available for the convenience of the common men. And all the talk between police and the parties must be locked in the computer system. So that no any twist of move can be made to cheat any of the parties. The government fee must be paid online. There are many person who cannot do it. For them cyber cafe are to be made government's agent for case basis fee payable by the common men.
Example 2:
Problem: The judiciary system must be computerised to make the system honest. It is the one place from where corruption are breeding by leaps and bound. The problem is that layers makes creative mistake in the statement to charge unnecessary fee for its correction. For every stamp there is connected fee. No one can avail any communication to the judicial system through online system. Every common man has fear of black coats why? Is it the system our freedom fighters dreamed. Certainly not.
Solution: If the cases will be launched by the party itself thereby paying government's registration fee through e-stamp. Then the start of the cases will be transparent. The lawyer will be in the system between the customer and the court system through online channel. Every statement must be locked in the system to make it one time statement that cannot be changed for cheating anyone. It can also be scrutinized by the court judges and the system. There will be no dependency on verbal talk . Everything will be written like SAP system of the corporate world. I think this will do a wonder for the common men and for the nation also. Just like banking system and online railway ticketing has boosted the economy of our country. Transparency will do the same for the other government bodies.

Above all we love our country whatever way it looks, feel and treat us. We are proud of our country.

More to be added. Readers are requested to add more point of corruption and its solution

Black Money Essay for Class 12

(663 Words ) :

Illegally made income or the income not declared for tax purpose is called black money.

Having undeclared money or hiding money in cash or in other form outside the country is also known as black money. High Networth Individual ( HNI ), private companies, politicians   of any nation have higher   linkage to black money and they are also remain in the highest suspicion for the illicit money flow outside the country.

Black money had been also a political stunt for gathering publicity in the process of election.

Black money is directly related to tax evasion and money laudering. The act of evading taxable income by act of malpractices the legal tools or by means of corrupt official, individual, mediator etc. is called tax evasion. Thus the amount hoarded by spreading or manipulating among the available financial tools is the black money. Lack of strong political will and due to weak judiciary system, black money system grows and persists in our society.

This is not the problem of an individual country. It is prevailing about everywhere except few places; where value of life is overruling all the negatives of human values. It is also because dishonesty, greed, selfishness etc by the people for the few people creates very good atmosphere of black money dealings. It is also because government sometime unfairly does not prove itself in truthful action despite collecting tax fairly, thereby compelling people to think in black way. For example while buying a land people many times deal by lowering the values of a land to evade tax. It is because government doesn't rate the land and has no power to buyback the land if its value is challenged by anyone or group of people. These are the loop holes of tax system. Similarly there are such loop holes in the system of many countries that are utilised by few to export illicit fund outside the country.

Black money got high talk in media in India in 2011 when Anticorruption movement came in focus. People used right to information ( RTI) tool to know about any financial or important deal or information.

Recently elected Indian government in 2014 promished high to bring back the black money from international pockets.  It also warned in tough tell to take a check on money laundering. In this connection supreme court of India issued an order to  set up  special Investigtion Team (SIT) and had given last day limit as May 28,2014. Present government formed the Committee  under retired justice M B shah on 27-05-2014 (one day in advance). Switzerland recently (2014) has amended its laws to help tax authorities of countries like India to provide information about the  people hoarding black money in Swiss pocket. It has also agreed on  not letting Account holders know this information.

Switzerland has given information about Indian holding  in Switzerland bank as around. Rs. 9000 crore or 2.18 billion Swiss francs till 2012 record.  Global Financial Integrity (GFI), a non-profitable organisation located at Washington DC reported in 2010 that India lost $213 billion to illicit financial flow between 1948 to 2008  and most of the illicit funds flow found from High networth Individual ( HNI ) India ranked fifth  country in the world for exporting illicit money according to GFI report. GFI has valued present illicit money outflow from India to the tune of $462 billion.

India was ranked 94 out of 176 countries in Transparency. Bribery payer index  is 7.5 out of 10 in 2011. Corruption control rank was 36% in 2010. (source: Transparency International). India has signed a treaty with many countries and Institution like  Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to check the back money issues. We should be fare and try to put a pressure on the system to be positive for paying tax. We should also find out a way to check the evil activities of few politicians who think that what is other's is theirs and what they have is already theirs.

1008 Words| Corruption and its Tool for Eradication Essay for Class 12

By KING,
"Corruption free government is not a necessary condition for rapid economic development. If the corporate and institutions work and uncertainty is checked, progress is possible". -S. Swaminathan

Corruption in any form is treated as an incurable disease, a cause of many social and economical evils in the society and it damages the moral and ethical fibres of the civilization. Indisputably, it is correct that corruption breeds many evils in the society and once corruption starts taking place, slowly and gradually whole country passes through its net and it becomes after sometime an incurable disease. From the point of view of economic growth, there seems to be no clear cut correlation between corruption and the economic growth of a country. There may be presence of some social maladies like inequality of income among the people, moral degradation of people due to the prevalence of corruption, but the parameters of economic growth which are taken on percentage or an average basis are entirely different.

we can find several countries having corrupt regime but yielding excellent economic results and other countries with clean regime showing very poor results in terms of economic prosperity and growth.

Transparency International publishes every year lists ranking corruption in various countries. It has just come up with a list of the 10 most corrupt rulers. The list is not given . It can be viewed on the internet. It is against the policy of this site.

This list is neither complete nor exhaustive. Saddam Hussein and his cronies might have skimmed more than some of the above rulers.

Corruption in long run may destroy the whole society morally, ethically and economically. May be in the long run, a country needs clean government to reach the top of the income ladder, may be rapid income growth by itself induces better accountability and governance, may be corruption in long run degenerates the society into several misfortunes and evils. But one fact still stands out: Clean government is not a necessary condition for rapid economic growth.

Bangladesh stands at the last of list of 133, yet it has been growing at five percent annually for a decade. Italy, the most corrupt country in Western Europe, has been one of the fastest growing economies. Corruption is often a good predictor of eventual economic crisis, yet when Argentina (92) went bust, the ensuing financial crisis also consumed its neighbors Uruguay which ranks at 33.

The puzzle to ponder is why does corruption coexist with both good and bad economic performance? Why has India over the decades grown more slowly than Indonesia despite less corruption?

A survey conducted for World Development Report some years ago, find one answer. Businessmen in surveyed countries said that the main problem with corruption was that it increases risks and uncertainties. The risks declined dramatically, if corruption produced reliable outcome (as in Indonesia). If all players have to pay 10% and could sure of getting their licenses (Madam X was called 10%) entrepreneurs could treat this as just one more tax, factor it into their calculations of profit and so could invest with confidence of sure gain. Most businessman fear the arbitrariness where some entrepreneurs pay huge sums in vain, while others pay little or nothing and succeed. This happens when there is much discretion in decision making.

It also happens when some decision makers are corrupt and others are not. India is such a country where entrepreneurs are not sure of the things, some decision makers are corrupt and others are honest. One more crucial things about India is the rule of nepotism, rule of criminals and blackmailing through other modes even after paying demanded money. Arbitrariness in decisions, unreasoned ability of demands makes the business wary of dealing in such cases. There is a saying in India that we have honest politicians, who take money and do the needful, dishonest politicians who take money and do not deliver the goods and madmen who do not take money at all. In this lexicon, X was both honest and sane and delivered the goods.

The worst situation is when the ruler extorts without giving anything in return, this seems to be a case in Zaire and Nigeria. Finally, the quality of institutions seems to be the most important factor for the growth of a country. If the institutions work even moderately well, progress is possible even if money is skimmed off at the top. But if the institutions are incapable of enforcing any rights, corruption will hasten economic collapse.

So far Indian economy is concerned the slow progress is the result of lack of decision making at higher levels. Many politicians who takes money but could not enforce their will because of powerful lobby of bureaucrats at many places and in a democracy like India, voice of media, voice of opposition could suppress the wish of the leader. Ours is a peculiar democracy where politicians are corrupt but not authoritative, ours is a multi-party system where leg pulling for no cause, accusation without any evidence is common. Instability in political system is also responsible for the slow economic progress where the Prime Minister is always busy in satiating the coalition partners to keep attached. So far quality of institutions are concerned we are having well matured corporate and the fast development reflected during the last years, has brought stability in the country and good relations with the neighboring nations.

India’s economic growth on an average 6% GDP despite considerable corruption is because of the stability and the liberalization measures taken by the present government, gradual privatization of various sector, reducing bureaucratic intervention in routine work and other measures adopted by the government. It is important to note that growth in some States, where institutions are strong and decision making is least arbitrary is faster than other States.

In brief, it can well be concluded that corruption and economic growth has no clear correlation. Strong institutions, political stability, fast and reasonable logic in decision taking are some of the requirements for fast growth of a nation.

Commonwealth Game Mazor Scam Essay material.

A major scam hit the Commonwealth Games on Friday with allegations being made that a substantial sum of money was transferred to a little known U.K. company from the Games Organising Committee (OC) about which the British government has raised questions.

Television channels reported that over £ 4.50 lakh were transferred through a British bank to the A M Films company, said to be a one man show and which was also receiving £ 25,000 a month.

'Times Now' quoted documents to show that the entire deal came to light when the OC asked for a VAT refund of £ 14,000 in March this year for the payments made to the British company.
The channel quoted a letter of the British Revenue and Customs Department to the Indian High Commission stating that there was no written contract between the CWG and A M Films and that no tendering procedure had been followed and there was no paper work regarding the contract.
The OC is reported to have made a payment of nearly £2.5 lakh for video equipment purchase while A M Films had claimed that it provided services of car hire, makeshift toilets, barriers and electricity.
Indian High Commission sources said the information provided by the U.K. authorities had been forwarded to the Sports Ministry for follow-up action.

Lokpal Bill is a Corrective Measure of Corruption Essay

By Administrator +Deepak Shenoy +Elias Khan +Srinivas V
Lokpal system is not new to Indian constitution. The word 'Lokpal' was coined in 1963 by L.M.Singhvi as a corrective measure, a Member of Parliament during a debate in Parliament about grievance redress mechanisms. The bill was structured for the same reason ; which has become today`a new issue. In our society it may happen that the ruler may become corrupt . Keeping this view in mind social activists made time to time agitation to strengthen Lokpal and Lokayukt System. But as this law will provide a check on corrupt government functionaries (officers, ministers and others lower level staff) this bill  was never given a right priority  in the past.

What may be the history. I will say that this is one type of corrective measures that may again become defective. Actually the nation creator M.K. Gandhi and other great freedom fighter thought that the people of India will not become unethical in later time. It is because Indian brought the glory of India by sacrificing their life. Their ethics were at highest peak of human values. But the today's people failed to sustain the value of freedom fighters. Why I am saying these think. Is it boring your mind. But later in this article , I will show you the link of corruption with this fact.

I write the reason of corruption in other competition but that was not liked. May be the true fact which I feel was not liked by many. But believe me what I think to the best of my knowledge is that 'Corruption comes from the bad thinking of the human selfishness by sidelining the fear of  God .' It means if a man is not of religious minded , then there is more chance that he may become ill thinker. Many non-believer of religious facts will laugh on the word fear of God but mind it , these people faces the beauty of God`a punishment in their present life.

Think of our home management. Suppose if it would be small nation and the guardian or head of the family has allotted different job to different family members by keeping his position as the Prime minister of home.
Then  analyse it and think ,  is there corruption in your house. If not then it is clear that the ethical values are at highest condition in your house. If not then it is evident that your house have no real human values and many of you are distant from religious platform.
If guardian receives a packet of sweats then he never eat it alone, but he brings it at home and share it with all members of the family. Everybody of the family feels very much accountable for other`s feeling and maintain a good level of human values.

Corruption can never be eradicated by lokpal bill or any amendment. It is my view. It can only be checked by bringing the whole world towards managing human values and its importance enhancement  in modern education system.

The modern education system teach to deprive others by competing with tricky intellect. But religion teach to give opportunity to first to other and remain on the theory of live and let live. Until this comes in one`s mind , one can not be free from corrupt mindset. This doesn`t mean that competition is harmful in education system, but there must be something supportive system for the survival of the failed candidates in that competition. At least there must be sufficient opportunity to deploy them in the profession of their suit. It can be possible if accumulated corrupt money is expended for creation of new economy i.e. in power sector or in agriculture sector. These sectors need large fund that can be achieved from black money.

If our society can maintain only 50 percent of religious thought and theory then our system will improve at most.
It is my belief. It is because if one is going to participate in corruption then it is his mindset only which can stop for doing that. Nothing can stop. Because he is possessing power of sufficient corruption activity.
Any improvement in this article will be welcomed , so comment below .

Corruption Essay for Class 11

                                      Total--- 978 Words
Introduction
Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

It is not easy to define corruption. But in a narrow sense, corruption is mostly concerned with bribery and it takes several forms. Corruption is a global phenomenon and it is omnipresent. Corruption has progressively increased and is now rampant in our society.
National scenario
Corruption in India is a consequence of the nexus between Bureaucracy, politics and criminals. India is now no longer considered a soft state. It has now become a consideration state where everything can be had for a consideration. Today, the number of ministers with an honest image can be counted on fingers. At one time, bribe was paid for getting wrong things done but now bribe is paid for getting right things done at right time.

Effects of corruption
Indian administration is tainted with scandals. India is among 55 of the 106 countries where corruption is rampant, according to the Corruption Perception Index 2004 Report released by Transparency International India. Corruption in India leads to promotion not prison. It is very difficult to catch big sharks. Corruption in India has wings not wheels. As nation grows, the corrupt also grow to invent new methods of cheating the government and public.

Causes of corruption
The causes of corruption are many and complex. Following are some of the causes of corruption.

1. Emergence of political elite who believe in interest-oriented rather than nation-oriented programmes and policies.

2· Artificial scarcity created by the people with malevolent intentions wrecks the fabric of the economy.

3· Corruption is caused as well as increased because of the change in the value system and ethical qualities of men who administer. The old ideals of morality, service and honesty are regarded as an achronistic.

4 Tolerance of people towards corruption, complete lack of intense public outcry against corruption and the absence of strong public forum to oppose corruption allow corruption to reign over people.

5· Vast size of population coupled with widespread illiteracy and the poor economic infrastructure lead to endemic corruption in public life.

6· In a highly inflationary economy, low salaries of government officials compel them to resort to the road of corruption. Graduates from IIMs with no experience draw a far handsome salary than what government secretaries draw.

7· Complex laws and procedures alienate common people to ask for any help from government.

8· Election time is a time when corruption is at its peak level. Big industrialist fund politicians to meet high cost of election and ultimately to seek personal favour. Bribery to politicians buys influence, and bribery by politicians buys votes. In order to get elected, politicians bribe poor illiterate people, who are slogging for two times’ meal.

Measures to combat corruption
Is it possible to contain corruption in our society? Corruption is a cancer, which every Indian must strive to cure. Many new leaders when come into power declare their determination to eradicate corruption but soon they themselves become corrupt and start amassing huge wealth.

There are many myths about corruption, which have to be exploded if we really want to combat it. Some of these myths are: Corruption is a way of life and nothing can be done about it. Only people from underdeveloped or developing countries are prone to corruption. We will have to guard against all these crude fallacies while planning measures to fight corruption.

1· Foolproof laws should be made so that there is no room for discretion for politicians and bureaucrats. The role of the politician should be minimized. Application of the evolved policies should be left in the hands of independent commission or authority in each area of public interest. Decision of the commission or authority should be challengeable only in the courts.

2· Cooperation of the people has to be obtained for successfully containing corruption. People should have a right to recall the elected representatives if they see them becoming indifferent to the electorate.

3· Funding of elections is at the core of political corruption. Electoral reforms are crucial in this regard. Several reforms like: State funding of election expenses for candidates; strict enforcement of statutory requirements like holding in-party elections, making political parties get their accounts audited regularly and filing income-tax returns; denying persons with criminal records a chance to contest elections, should be brought in.

4· Responsiveness, accountability and transparency are a must for a clean system. Bureaucracy, the backbone of good governance, should be made more citizen friendly, accountable, ethical and transparent.

5· More and more courts should be opened for speedy & inexpensive justice so that cases don’t linger in courts for years and justice is delivered on time.

7· Local bodies, Independent of the government, like Lokpals, Lokadalats, CVCs and Vigilance Commissions should be formed to provide speedy justice with low expenses.

8· A new Fundamental Right viz. Right to Information should be introduced, which will empower the citizens to ask for the information they want. Barring some confidential information, which concerns national and international security, other information should be made available to general public as and when required. Stringent actions against corrupt officials will certainly have a deterrent impact.

Conclusion
Corruption is an intractable problem. It is like diabetes, can only be controlled, but not totally eliminated. It may not be possible to root out corruption completely at all levels but it is possible to contain it within tolerable limits. Honest and dedicated persons in public life, control over electoral expenses could be the most important prescriptions to combat corruption. Corruption has a corrosive impact on our economy. It worsens our image in international market and leads to loss of overseas opportunities. Corruption is a global problem that all countries of the world have to confront, solutions, however, can only be home grown. We have tolerated corruption for so long. The time has now come to root it out from its roots.
